It is not coincidence that architectural design, animation and cinema, and also game design use the same software program called 3D Studio Max by the Autodesk company. When all three fields are propelled into the digital age by computerization, Autodesk provides this particular software for 3D software for 3d modeling of building, of cinematic virtual setting and game environment creation.
In effect the digital virtual environments created by the software are interchangable by the three fields and disciplines. Highly detailed architectural model of urban environment and buildings are required by cinematic special effect production and game companies are requiring more and more elaborate digital virtual environment for their games because computer power of individual gamer are always hungry for greater and greater visual and audio fidelity of computer graphic in emulating the real world or even fantasy world. The gamer machine pushes the limit of the gaming experience by having more and more cinematic qualities into the gaming narrative. On the architectural front, digital and virtual architecture provide important visualization capabilities to the architects and designers, enabling them to show the clients photo-realistic scenario before a brick is laid in reality. Virtual reality with further enhance the visualization field to allow visualizer or imagineers to envision scenario in real time and able to navigate those virtual environments in real time, even interacting with various elements in those virtual environments. It comes to an interest point whereby the virtual worlds becoming increasingly realistic for people to interact and inhabit, while the physical realities will be lagging behind because of the time required to actually build in the real world. Will people actually spend more time in virtual environments at some point in our future? is the smartphone screen just a start of that process?
