The Question Why

In yesterday blog I talked of an intelligent program that automatically develop several trains of thought within ThinkRealm that allows me to look into several predictive scenarios. But why would I want to do that? Why don't I just follow through with one train of thought and develop it into an ultimate destination of a narrative with a beginning, middle and end? Isn't a completed narrative a more satisfying piece of work to communicate with others and making a certain statement about the world and reality for other to react to and think about? It is essentially the same question asked of the development of multi-narrative cinema or storytelling with different endings, or even a thesis of a paper, or a simple argument. Why would such a multi-narrative be entertaining or exciting. What is the constrain of a straight story that seems unsatisfying and even incomplete? In this age? Is it about the time or seems to be the lack of time that we have on hand these days? Or that there are simply too much information to deal with and consume and we cannot afford to spend time on each developing stories and we have to discard ideas that merely not relevant to our concerns? I think the above two questions are already part of the answers. Yes the world is now overflow of stories, we are not sure we want to experience stories without being selective, yet we are afraid of missing important informations. Instead of stories, or the experience of stories, we crave for information, essential ones that may make a drastic differences to our life. Not necessarily intelligent one or wise one but immediate, critical information. And then there are fake stories or fake news. Wouldn't it be nice that a program already sort out the news and stories for me in the morning? And yes, there is this third reason for our discontent for complete narrative: our crave and out greed. We simply want more information to want to stay ahead, not not necessarily essential and wise advises. I read somewhere that's when Plato decide on doing dialogue instead of proposing his ideas in stories or hypothesis. With the feedback loop discussion of others his ideas and thoughts develop further and deeper than him thinking through problems alone. That's also brings to my mind the idea of praying. People believing in a religion prays to God and to an entity, for comfort, for advise and for the "right" information. It seems discussion forum and praying are highly developed thought train that may yield more intelligent results.
