To connect with the idea of previous blog on The Matrix, the idea of the 'imaginary' takes hold and becomes a central theme of a thinking I am developing. This word comes from cultural studies and it generally designate as follow: from Wikipedia: The imaginary (or social imaginary) is the set of values, institutions, laws, and symbols common to a particular social group and the corresponding society through which people imagine their social whole. The concept of the imaginary has attracted attention in sociology, philosophy, and media studies.
In a way our ways of looking at things are very much filtered or color by our imaginaries, or simply to say how we imagined the outside world. The best example is given by the philosopher Slavoj Žižek: when you fall in love with someone, or making love to someone, or even having sex with someone, you are really doing that to a projection of your mind. To really know the other individual probably takes more work than making love. An so it goes. Imaginaries are projections of our minds. We see the world through our projections and color glasses, and to really know the truth, the reality behind matters and people require real work and mental power and intelligence. And to clarify how our minds see the world we better have a good understanding of all kinds of imaginaries or projection, or cultural conditionings, etc. To study the imaginaries of people, or objects, or events, or even history, we have to learn how people really imagine things. Just like at Disney, there are imagineers.
